Local Area

Church Stretton became a Spa town in the late 1800’s, attracting visitors to test the spring waters: but nowadays most people come to enjoy the countryside surrounding the town, and to gain access to the hills. The area is within one of outstanding natural beauty and a large proportion of the land is owned and maintained by the National Trust.

The Long Mynd is a plateau of open moorland stretching to 12 miles in length and rising approximately 1,700ft at its highest point. From Spring to October the National Trust runs a regular shuttle  bus circular service to the top of the hills and beyond, with passengers being able to alight and rejoin at any point. It is well worth doing the circular journey, as there are the spectacular views to be seen.
